Dr. Isaiah Sypher

Founder and Psychologist

I was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens by three generations of phenomenal women. I received my BA in Psychology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. I completed my doctoral internship at the Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, where I am currently Voluntary Clinical Faculty. I have experience working with individuals of diverse cultural, gender, and class identities across with a spectrum of presenting concerns. As a Black, queer, first-generation college graduate, I have a keen understanding for how various forms of power and privilege inform our everyday lives and psychological wellbeing. Additionally, I have my own lived experience of therapy and healing, and thus I have a deep appreciation for how big an undertaking the process of change can be.

I am passionate about serving underserved communities, including those impacted systemic inequality, trauma, limited access to care, or racial battle fatigue. I am LGBTQIA+- affirming and open to all faiths and practices. My goal is to create a therapeutic space where clients feel safe, seen, and empowered to move forward on their own terms. Whether managing illness, adjusting to life changes, or seeking mind- body balance, I approach wellness through a holistic lens that respects cultural identity, spiritual beliefs, and lived experiences. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow working under the supervision of Dr. Isaiah Sypher.

Grounded in clinical science and compassion, I use evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mind-body approaches tailored to each client’s unique journey. In our sessions, we’ll collaboratively explore how physical health, emotional wellbeing, and daily function intersect in your life.

With specialized training in chronic pain and insomnia treatment, as well as a clinical background in occupational therapy, I offer a whole person integrative approach to healing. My combined training allows me to understand the complex interplay between the mind, body, and daily functioning, helping clients not just to cope, but rediscover purpose and joy!

I am passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and discover their strengths. I work with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or other mental health concerns. I have extensive experience supporting both adults and children with depression, PTSD, OCD, and stress-related conditions, including mood disorders. I am interested in helping clients improve relationships, heal from past trauma, and find new ways to cope with stress. I believe therapy is a partnership and working alongside my clients to set goals that align with their values and needs.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while also recognizing that every client’s journey is unique. My style is warm, collaborative, and empowering. I believe it’s important to create a safe space where clients feel heard, supported, and guided toward meaningful change.

Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy giving back to my community, exploring Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods, and spending quality time with family and friends. If you are looking to start your therapeutic journey, please don’t hesitate to reach out to schedule an initial consultation. I look forward to hearing from you.
